We are
on firm position to avoid getting grants or loans which are not
align with the national development policies under this government,
said Hon.Maithripala Sirisena, Minister of Agricultural Development
and Agrarian Services at the contract awarding ceremony of DSWRPP
was held on 16th July 2009 at Mahaweli Authoriy building. Minister
further stated that, need of the farsighted plans for the project
to safeguard the threaten lives and properties in downstream of
high risk dams is mandatory requirement.
Multisector Water Resource Planning is one of the project components.
Project is able to get overseas high tech consultancy services
for this component from the Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation
(SMEC) in Australia. This company was qualified to provide the
consultancy service to the project. The
component is being addressed the improvement of national and
provincial water resources investment planning, development
of national water use plan, a mundeni Aru Basin development
plan and updating of revised Mahaweli Water Resources Development
Plan. Environment & social assessment, water resources modeling
and other related studies and analysis will be carried out by
the SMEC consultants together with counterpart staff assigned
from implementing agencies to work with the consultants.
Mr. Ragawan, manager, SMEC for South Asia, Mrs. Kamala Uyanwatta
, Act.Secratery of Ministry of Agricultural Development and
Agrarian Services, and Mr. D.C.S. Elakanda, Project Director
of the DSWRPP took part at the ceremony.
