Minister of Irrigation & Water Resources Management, Hon. Nimal
Siripala De Silva and Deputy Minister Hon. S.M.Chandrasena handed
over the keys of 12 backhoe loaders to the implementing agencies
of the project to be used for improving basic safety facilities
and to uplift the operational & maintenance efficiencies of
dams identified under the DSWRP project.
These Rs.87.1 million worth brand new backhoe loaders have wide
range of operational capacities and capabilities to handle diverse
functions of operation & maintenance work of the dams and other
irrigation infrastructure. Twelve backhoe loaders were distributed
among 3 implementing agencies as Irrigation Department -6, Mahaweli
Authority of Sri Lanka -5 and Ceylon Electricity Board-01. This
event was held at the equipment yard of Senok Trading Company, Welivariya
on 1st July 2010.
Speaking
at the handing over ceremony, Hon Minister Nimal Siripala Da Silva
said that this investment would be fruitful in the future creating
many benefits for the future generation. He further stressed that
those equipment should be mobilized in the field soon to get their
maximum benefits in efficient manner. Addressing the gathering,
Deputy Minister, Hon, S.M.Chandresena said that, this is the timely
action taken to replace old contraction equipment with new equipment
for irrigation sector of the country.
Project Director of the DSWRP project Eng.D.C .S Elakanda and other
Key invitees from Department of Irrigation, Mahaweli Authority of
Sri Lanka and Ceylon Electricity board took part at the ceremony.
